About

Leonard Hong

I am an experienced political economist with a focus on macroeconomics, international economics, urban development, public policy, and state capacity in small open economies.

I was formerly a Senior Policy and Advocacy Advisor at Property Council New Zealand and a Policy Advisor at the Property Council of Australia based in Perth. I completed a Master’s degree in International Political Economy at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore with a First Class Honours. Before, I was an Advisor to Hon. Andrew Bayly MP FRGS – former NZ Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. From 2020 to 2022, I worked as a Research Assistant for a think tank and research institution, The New Zealand Initiative. At the University of Auckland, I graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts degree in 2020, with majors in Economics, International Business, Politics & International Relations, and History. I am a recipient of the individual award of the NZ Prime Minister’s Scholarship for Asia, and the group award of the Prime Minister’s Scholarship for Latin America.

As a passionate individual for political science and economics, I always strive for greater knowledge and intellect. My main interests lie in the topics of globalisation, macroeconomics, international political economy and great power politics. I enjoy reading and digesting non-fiction books in my field of interest and aspire to emulate my intellectual heroes.

“Practical men who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influence, are usually the slaves of some defunct economist.” — John Maynard Keynes
